Diva Learns to Rest

Trauma can cause a nervous system to be in constant flight or fight mode. It can also cause someone to dissociate when flight or fight is not effective. Diva came to me as a 'calm' but untrained horse. I quickly found out that she was not calm, but dissociated because of some traumatic experience. Our last four years have been me trying to show her how to stay connected to me and then to release that 'stuck' trauma energy held in her body. Progress has been slow but steady. She figured out on her own that she needs to lie down to rest and restore calm to her hypersensitive nervous system.

Will she ever have a 'normal' nervous system? I don't think so, but her quality of life is so much better than when I got her. This gives me hope for my clients. If a horse can learn to calm themselves, so can we!
